500 |a "It feels obvious to me that we are living through large changes in reading and writing. I decided to create a typographic performance of an essay-poem I wrote about these changes. I was interested in visually performing the bifurcation between regulated language (autocorrected and AI-edited) and personal, private language--which is now loaded with semiotically-variable emojis and invented spellings. Most people now employ multiple literacies in their everyday communications! The blurred shadows surrounding each chunk of text are that text blurred and re-screened using a warped line pattern. It is supposed to be hard to read, just like much of the new reading." -- artists' statement
520 |a In Readed, Meador plays with language through both visual and textual explorations, mediated through the fuzzy, graphic aesthetics of the riso printing technique. Connecting the emergence of photography and new technologies to how we read and mediate texts in our own mind, Meador represents this new types and techniques of reading through the visual play of texts
